Sheldon Adelson Hires New Lobbyists in Fight against US Online Poker

Online Casinoplex News ArticleThe recent news about Amaya Gaming acquiring Poker Stars and the possibility that the poker room may return to US gambling markets has resulted in 80 year old Sheldon Adelson, the sworn online poker opponent and casino tycoon, increasing his fight against the industry.

Sheldon Adelson is the billionaire owner of the Las Vegas Sands and has reportedly hired a new lobbying firm the Washington based Keelen Group to “monitor Federal policy issues related to internet gambling – H.R. 4301 & amp. S 2159 – Restoration of America’s Wire Act” in an effort to get the US public and its politicians to back his attempts to ban online gambling through federal laws.

Adelson is not impressed with the results of the other lobbying groups hired by him during last year. He seemed to make some progress when he backed a federal bill introduced in March that aims to overturn the 2011 Department of Justice decision regarding the Wire Act. However, it is believed that infighting between Adelson and other members of the American Gaming Association has resulted in the trade group announcing that it would be staying out of the public argument with regard to federal online gambling legislation.

The casino tycoon is now using tactics which include scaring the public into believing that the online poker industry could help terrorists groups fund their activities with his latest commercial claiming that an established al-Qaeda poker network would be able to extract enough untraceable money from the United States in a couple of days to fund several 9/11 sized attacks.

Online poker supporters are calling Sheldon Adelson’s commercials “ridiculous hysterics” and “distortion at its best”.
